What is the difference between the two modes?
Keep text mode only cleans up the file structure and metadata, so savings are usually small but text stays selectable. Maximum compression turns each page into a compressed image, which can shrink scans and image-heavy files a lot, but text is no longer selectable.
Why did my PDF not get smaller?
Some files are already well optimized. Try Maximum compression with a lower quality setting.
